February is Heart Havens Month!
Heart Havens provides residential services for men and women with intellectual disabilities through the development and operation of group homes across Virginia. With your help, Heart Havens is able to support 55 adults in 12 Christ-centered homes; offering individuals supported independence and providing their families with peace of mind. Your financial gift, or a gift of your time, talent or service, can make a profound difference in the life of your neighbor living in a Heart Havens’ home. This February, Heart Havens will send materials to your United Methodist Church. If you would like a Heart Havens representative to speak to your church group or congregation, please call Heart Havens at 237-6097. Speaking points will be included in the materials being sent to your church. Local churches are asked to have someone in your church speak for Heart Havens. One Sunday out of the year is all it takes to change a life.
5 Talent Academy
How do we raise resources during these challenging times? How do we encourage generosity when so many seem to be just keeping their heads above water? How do we use technology to help our people respond liberally? These questions and others will be addressed at the next gathering of the 5 Talent Academy 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 19, at Floris UMC, 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon. Consultant Ted Hart will offer practical stewardship advice. This is a great opportunity to bring Finance Committee members and anyone else who needs to hear a helpful word on stewardship during these tough times. If your church has not yet signed up to be a part of the Academy, now is the time to join. For more information email

Mission Opportunities
Being a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ means showing His love to our brothers and sisters through our acts of compassion. Our Conference Mission Opportunities booklet has many missionaries and mission projects that need our financial support and prayers. All of us working together make mission possible. Your little and my little add up to a lot when we put them in God’s hands. This month I would like to lift up United Methodist Urban Ministries of Richmond/Shalom Farms (UMUMR). This organization in our own backyard works for food security, educational supports and faith development in Richmond primarily through an organic farm and related community and faith-based programming. Volunteers are needed to work with inner-city youth to help them experience the great outdoors. You can learn more about UMUMR by going to their Web site
